Idaho, near Sandpoint and Schweitzer Ski Resort. We offer a stress free environment and promise relaxation, recreation
and most important, a consistent training program tailored to you and your dog's specific needs.
Karen Schumacher is the founder/owner of A Family Dog, a kennel that offers boarding and training in Bonners Ferry,
Idaho, a North Idaho city near Sandpoint and Coeur d'Alene.
Becoming a dog trainer was a dedicated decision for
Karen. She spent two years apprenticing with professional dog trainer, Becky Bishop of Woodinville, Washington.
In addition, Karen has worked with a variety of professional trainers from around the world, regularly attended
training seminars and networked with many trainers in an effort to ensure her expertise.
Karen offers private family dog training at your home or her facility offering programs that board your dog here
while Karen works daily on focused training. As a part of all training programs, it is suggested that owners consult
with Karen in their home to have Karen evaluate environmental influences and assess the temperament and training
needs of your dog. Karen works with behavior problems of all kinds. She also helps owners start right with basic
obedience for puppies and newly adopted dogs. Karen recognizes how much easier it is to start with the right goals
than to deal with problems later. Working with family members to set training goals is one of her areas of expertise.
Expecting good behavior from your dog and providing him with exercise and love is essential for having a dog that
is fun for everyone to be around. While many dogs have behaviors that create family stress and frustration, Karen
believes that every dog deserves the opportunity to rehabilitate and benefit from the training provided to the
dog and it’s family. A Family Dog helps you address common concerns like potty training, leash walking, jumping,
mouthing as well as other behavior issues.
